Capturing Water on Canvas with Peter Reid

In this acrylics course, Peter will help dispel the belief that water is one of the hardest subjects to paint. You will learn to  capture the varying energies of water - from the tranquil to the rushing flow of a cascade - by truly seeing the subject, the colours and the various techniques we can use. Mornings will be spent learning the ebb and flow of water while the afternoons will be spent working on your own projects with individual assistance.

Peter John Reid is a contemporary painter exhibiting in several galleries throughout Ontario.  He is an exceptional and often sought educator. His classes are packed with information, inspiration, and laughs which will leave you enriched (and exhausted!) by week’s end. But, oh so glad you attended!!  His definitive book on painting will be available for sale on the first day at the price of $35.  It is recommended that if you already own a copy, please bring it.

In class acrylic paints and mediums are provided by Tri-Art Paints a Canadian Company

We will begin our day with Yoga (optional) provided by Bonnie Gardiner.  After a hearty breakfast we will spend three hours painting with Peter.

Our afternoon will begin with lunch and then supported painting time in the afternoon.  Critiques will be in the evenings after a dinner break.

Wabi Sabi and Minimalism

"The two dominant principles of Chinese and Japanese art and culture are wabi and sabi. Wabi refers to a philosophical construct, a sense of space, direction, or path, while sabi is an aesthetic construct rooted in a given object and its features, plus the occupation of time, chronology, and objectivity.  Though the terms are and should be referred to distinctly, they are usually combined as wabi-sabi, as both a working description and a single aesthetic principle.

In this workshop we will explore the concept of wabi-sabi and how we apply it to our journey in art and life.

Wax On - Wax Off

In this workshop participants will explore various techniques using cold wax and oil. We will explore techniques to build texture in to the surface using frottage, grattage, scraffito and heat. Join Sharon in the exploration and diversity of this medium that is gaining widespread popularity, and breathe new life into your work.  Whether you enjoy painting abstracts or realistic paintings, this medium will give a new glow to your paintings.
